Cotton returns for Rapids clash

Thursday 16th July 2015
Written by Danny Painter

Fast bowler Ben Cotton returns to the Derbyshire Falcons squad as they conclude their NatWest T20 Blast campaign against Worcestershire Rapids at The 3aaa County Ground tomorrow; 7pm start.

Cotton, who has been out of action for a month with a side strain, is included in Graeme Welch’s otherwise unchanged 14-man squad from the victory versus Yorkshire Vikings last time out.

A sell-out crowd at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, watched the Falcons defeat the Vikings by four wickets with Wes Durston leading the way, claiming a career-best 3-14 off his four overs.

Captain Durston, Vice-Captain Tom Poynton, Chesney Hughes and Shiv Thakor, meanwhile, will all complete their records of playing in every NatWest T20 Blast fixture if they are selected tomorrow night. While Australian bowler Nathan Rimmington is set to play the final game of his spell with the Falcons.

OPPOSITION

Worcestershire have already qualified for the Quarter Finals of the NatWest T20 Blast with two games to spare, after they defeated Yorkshire Vikings by 74 runs at Headingley on Tuesday.

They will be looking to cement their top two spot in the North Group, with a home last-eight fixture up for grabs. They are led by powerful opening batsman Daryl Mitchell, while their bowling attack includes Pakistan international Saeed Ajmal.

Youth has been a key factor in the Rapids’ success with Richard Oliver, Joe Leach, Brett D’Oliveira, Ben Cox, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Ed Barnard all ages 25 or under.
