Chesney Hughes hit a quick-fire 40 and returned 2-12 with the ball as Derbyshire ran out winners over a Chesterfield Invitational XI in a Twenty20 Friendly at Queen’s Park.
Batting first, Derbyshire scored 169-6 from their 20 overs with Chesney Hughes top scoring, Wayne Madsen adding 33 and Tom Poynton hitting an unbeaten 25 from only seven balls
All-rounder Alex Hughes then impressed with the ball returning 3-29 from his four overs, while Chesney Hughes, Scott Elstone (2-19) and Nathan Rimmington (2-14) all claimed two wickets apiece as the Falcons claimed a 37-run win.
Many batsman made vital contributions for Derbyshire as they posted 169-6. Opening the batting, Chesney Hughes continued his excellent T20 form to score 40 from 27 balls whilst Madsen backed him up with 33 from 25 balls.
Shiv Thakor also added useful runs, scoring 30 from 23 balls before Scott Elstone hit 23 from 17, before Poynton struck three sixes to finish the innings unbeaten on 25 from just seven balls.
The Falcons then took wickets throughout their defence with Alex Hughes returning 3-29, Rimmington taking 2-14 and Chesney Hughes backing up his good work with the bat by taking 2-12.
The other two wickets fell to the spin of Elstone for 19 runs but Jurie Snyman top-scored in the match, hitting 54 from 41 from the Chesterfield Invitational XI.
Former Derbyshire all-rounder Garry Park scored 20 from 20 balls but it was not enough for the hosts who finished their 20 overs on 132-9 to hand Derbyshire victory.
