Charlotte Horton top scored with 45 as Derbyshire Women beat a Worcestershire Invitational XI by eight wickets in a Twenty20 fixture at The 3aaa County Ground, sponsored by Briggs of Burton.
After losing the toss and being asked to bowl first, Derbyshire restricted the visitors to 91-9 off their 20 overs in the special Twenty20 fixture in support of the Club’s bid for Derby to be a host city for the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup.
Leah Kellogg (2-21), Sarah Sribala-Sundaram (2-10) and Rachael Hopkins (2-13) all claimed two wickets for the hosts in a good performance in the field.
Alice Dyson (1-4) and Amy Lacey (1-22), meanwhile, picked up one wicket apiece to help set Derbyshire 92 to win.
The hosts made a good start in reply thanks to a 82-run opening stand between Charlotte Horton and Hopkins. The pair, after making a steady start, steered their side to the brink of victory before Horton was first out for 45 off 52 balls, including seven fours.
Opening partner Hopkins was out shortly after for 29 off 50 balls, including three fours, with the hosts needing four more to win.
Kellogg got Derbyshire over the line, scoring an unbeaten 12 runs from just six balls including two fours, as the hosts got to their target inside 18 overs with eight wickets to spare.
