Footitt returns for Durham trip

Friday 14th August 2015
Written by Danny Painter

Mark Footitt returns to the Derbyshire Falcons squad for the Royal London One-Day Cup fixture versus Durham at the Emirates Durham ICG on Monday, 10.30am start.

Footitt missed the six-wicket victory over Leicestershire Foxes at Derby last time out after being selected as part of England’s squad for the fourth Investec Ashes Test versus Australia at Trent Bridge. He takes the place of Will Davis in the Falcons squad, while Ben Slater also misses out.

A victory for Derbyshire will move Graeme Welch’s men back in the top four in Group A and firmly in the hunt for a quarter-final place ahead of their final Group A fixture at home to Worcestershire on Tuesday 18 August; 10.30am start.

DERBYSHIRE FALCONS squad to play Durham:

3. Wes Durston
1. Billy Godleman
5. Tillakaratne Dilshan
77. Wayne Madsen
22. Chesney Hughes
18. Alex Hughes
10. Scott Elstone
57. Shiv Thakor
23. Tom Poynton
20. Matt Critchley
14. Greg Cork
36. Ben Cotton
4. Mark Footitt

OPPOSITION

Durham come into the game knowing that they must win to keep alive their Quarter Final aspirations, with a victory still not guaranteeing the reigning champions a last-eight berth.

A Durham victory would take them to nine points and while it would eliminate Derbyshire, they would still be relying on Northamptonshire to slip up in one of their two remaining fixtures against Gloucestershire and Yorkshire respectively.

Captain Mark Stoneman and wicketkeeper Phil Mustard provide the firepower at the top of the order, while they have the luxury of having three consistent all-rounders in the shape of former England veteran Paul Collingwood as well as John Hastings and Scott Borthwick.

Chris Rushworth is the linchpin of the seam attack and is ably backed up by the aforementioned all-rounders.

Durham defeated Warwickshire in the final of last year’s competition as they successfully chased down a low target of 166 to win by three wickets at Lord’s.

DURHAM squad to play Derbyshire Falcons:

M Stoneman, P Mustard, S Borthwick, G Clark, P Collingwood, G Muchall, J Hastings, R Pringle, K Jennings, G Onions, C Rushworth, J Harrison, C MacLeod, M Richardson
