New signing Andy Carter says he is looking forward to working with the team at Derbyshire after joining from Nottinghamshire on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old pace bowler made his debut for Nottinghamshire in 2009 and went on to make a total of 21 first class appearances for the Club, as well as a further 40 matches in the limited-overs formats of the game.

He has spent time on loan at Essex and more recently at Glamorgan where he claimed 16 wickets at an average of 23 in four LV= County Championship matches.

Carter is relishing his new challenge at Derbyshire and revealed the opportunity to work with Elite Performance Director Graeme Welch was a big factor in him putting pen to paper.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Derbyshire. I have known Graeme Welch for a long time and I am looking forward to working with him again,” said Carter.

“I spoke to Graeme about the ambitions for the Club and it’s something I want to be part of. I am quite a fierce competitor on the field and that’s one of the reasons Graeme was keen to sign me.

“One of the perks of coming to the Club is that they have a really good backroom staff so I am looking forward to working with them. I still have lots to give. I am only 27 and have a lot of cricket ahead of me.

“I will come in as one of the more experienced players at the Club. I feel like I am at the point in my career now where I need to be playing and that’s how I will improve as a cricketer.

“I was always in and out of the team at Nottinghamshire which never really did me any good. I am now aiming to get a good run of games under my belt at Derbyshire and kick on in my career.

“Hopefully by coming from a Club like Nottinghamshire I can bring all the things I have learnt to the younger lads coming through at Derbyshire. There is a lot of talent in the dressing room and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
