Wayne Madsen hit an unbeaten 76, but it was in vain as Surrey defeated Derbyshire to seal promotion from Division Two of the LV= County Championship at the Kia Oval.
Derbyshire began the final day with a deficit of 247 runs and despite half-centuries from Madsen and Wes Durston (57), the visitors were dismissed for 149.
Gareth Batty (6-51) took a hat-trick to finish the match and complete an innings and 98-run victory to seal Surrey’s return to Division One after a two-year absence.
Derbyshire lost both opening batsmen in the first three overs on Day Four as brothers Sam and Tom Curran removed Billy Godleman and Ben Slater without a run added to the scoreboard.
Chesney Hughes was then run out for five to leave the visitors 9-3 in the eighth over, but Madsen and Durston responded to add 86 runs for the fourth wicket.
Durston was first to fifty, his second first-class half-century of the season, at the start of the afternoon session but veteran off-spinner Batty struck twice in an over to thwart the recovery as Durston was lbw for 57 before Harvey Hosein was caught by Rory Burns at short-leg three balls later without scoring.

Batty then removed Tom Milnes for 3, but Madsen was there and brought up his fourth LV= County Championship half-century of the season as he passed 800 runs for the campaign.
Zafar Ansari claimed his 100th first-class wicket as he trapped Matt Critchley in front of his stumps to reduce Derbyshire to 144-7.
Gareth Batty then produced a stunning hat-trick to remove Tony Palladino (2), Mark Footitt (0) and Ben Cotton (0) to return figures of 6-51 and seal victory for the hosts.
