Cotton signs one-year contract extension

Fast bowler Ben Cotton has signed a one-year contract extension committing him to the Club until the end of the 2017 season.

The Cricket Derbyshire Academy, in partnership with the University of Derby graduate was a prominent member of Derbyshire’s bowling attack in 2015, taking 32 wickets across all formats.

Cotton was the county’s joint-highest wicket-taker in this season’s Royal London One-Day Cup, claiming 11 wickets at an average of 26, including career-best figures of 3-11 in the victory over Somerset at Taunton.

The 22-year-old also claimed 15 wickets in eight LV= County Championship appearances as well as impressing in the NatWest T20 Blast, picking up six wickets with an economy rate of 6.44.

Elite Performance Director, Graeme Welch said: “Ben has performed well since breaking into the first team and taken wickets across all three formats. He’s a great lad to work with who wants to continue to improve and get better.”

Cotton added: “I’m delighted to sign a contract extension and commit my future to Derbyshire.

“I hope I can now build on what I’ve done over the last couple of years and continue to take wickets and help win matches for the Club.”
