All-rounder Shiv Thakor thanked supporters for their backing in 2015 and believes their patience will be rewarded next season.

Thakor, who joined from Leicestershire at the end of the 2014 season, finished as the Club’s leading wicket-taker in both the NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup competitions in 2015.

The 21-year-old admitted that the season had not reached the heights the team had hoped for and is encouraging supporters to keep the faith for next year.

“We appreciate the support. It is the supporters who make us who we are and we are playing cricket because of them,” said Thakor.

“It means so much to us when we walk out to play and there are people getting behind us, it’s a young club and it’s a very exciting time.

“If our supporters can get behind us now I am sure they will be in stall for a great couple of years and some great times ahead.

“It has been a disappointing season both personally and also for the team. Unfortunately we haven’t done as well as we would have liked. We set goals at the start of the season and we didn’t meet them.

“We didn’t play well enough for the supporters to have a good perception of us. There can be a danger of trying too hard to prove people wrong but I think if we play to our potential then naturally that will happen. The main thing is to focus on our own games and not worry about anything else.”

Thakor says he is a disappointed not to have scored more runs in 2015 but praised the Club’s coaching staff for improving his performances with the ball.

“Personally I am disappointed with my own season, although I have performed better with the ball than I probably ever have,” Thakor added.

“I wasn’t happy with my batting and didn’t get as many runs as I would have liked, that is something I will be looking to correct next year.

“The coaching set-up was one of the reasons I signed last year and they have helped my bowling an awful lot. I have become more of a genuine all-rounder and hopefully I can build on what I have done, take more wickets in the championship and continue to do well in the two one-day formats.

“I think everybody knows that we have had a disappointing season. All of the young batsmen including myself have to take more responsibility to get runs on the board, even with the new signings the Club has made.”
