As part of a #ThrowbackThursday series, today we look back on the Falcons’ Royal London One-Day Cup victory over Somerset at Taunton in July.

After rain had delayed the start of the competition curtain-raiser, the match was initially reduced to 14 overs per side with Derbyshire being put into bat first.

Wayne Madsen hit eight fours in his innings of 45 runs from 24 balls, with Wes Durston adding 29 from 19 balls to ensure a brisk start, before Alex Hughes (15) and Shiv Thakor (13) produced late cameos to help Derbyshire finish on 134-7.

Derbyshire got off to a good start with the ball as Somerset skipper Jim Allenby fell in the first over, prior to a rain delay resulting in Somerset’s target being revised to 104 from 10 overs.

The visitors then dominated proceedings with Ben Cotton (3-11), Shiv Thakor (2-10), Alex Hughes (2-15), Greg Cork (2-17) and Mark Footitt (1-17) all amongst the wickets in a fine bowling display as the hosts subsided to 74 all out and Derbyshire completed a 29-run victory via Duckworth/Lewis.
