As part of a #ThrowbackThursday series, today we look back on the Falcons’ NatWest T20 Blast victory versus Notts Outlaws in the East Midlands derby in June.

Derbyshire Falcons posted their highest ever Twenty20 score at The 3aaa County Ground to defeat Notts Outlaws in front of over 4,000 supporters.

Batting first, Chesney Hughes top scored for the Falcons with 52 off just 29 balls, which included five fours and three sixes. He was assisted by New Zealand international Hamish Rutherford who added 37 off 20 balls to get the Falcons off to a flyer,

Notts pegged the hosts back during the middle overs to leave Derbyshire on 158-6 with four overs to go, but Alex Hughes (22), Tom Knight (18 not out) and Tom Poynton (13 not out) responded with some big shots in the final overs to help the hosts post a record-breaking 201-7.

Despite losing Alex Hales without scoring, bowled first ball by Nathan Rimmington, the visitors made a fast start led by a brutal display of hitting by Riki Wessels, as they moved on to 72-1 after the opening powerplay.

Derbyshire responded well though through Wes Durston (2-35), who had Michael Lumb and Wessels both caught on the boundary, with Alex Hughes (0-22) producing a tight spell of bowling to put the Falcons in the ascendancy.

Rimmington (3-24) and Shiv Thakor (2-30) then saw off the visitors in the final overs as Notts were dismissed for 167 with Derbyshire sealing a famous victory by 34 runs and recording their first home Twenty20 win over Notts since 2005.
