The Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby has announced its intake of nine home-grown cricketers for 2015/16.
The group includes seven returning Academy members and two new recruits who will have the opportunity to work closely with Academy Director AJ Harris and the remainder of the Club’s professional coaching staff and players.
The selected players will spend the winter developing their all-round games and taking lifestyle advice before embarking on a summer of cricket with matches against fellow first class county Academies.
Graduates Will Davis and Harry White both made first-class debuts for the county during the 2015 season.
With Ben Slater, Alex Hughes, Tom Taylor, Tom Poynton, Matt Critchley, Harvey Hosein, Ben Cotton, Greg Cork and Tom Knight, 11 Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with University of Derby graduates in total featured for Graeme Welch’s side during the summer.
The continuing partnership with the University of Derby, including the sponsorship of the county’s four-day shirt, will see Cricket Derbyshire once again support the University of Derby’s Team Derby cricket team as part of the first University/Academy cricket partnership in the country.
Academy Director, AJ Harris said: “Our programme is designed to create a smooth performance pathway from the Academy and into the first team squad.
“We have seen a number of youngsters take this step over the last few years, which has been pleasing, and we hope this can continue with our next crop of intakes.
“The 2016 Academy intakes will now get the chance to train within an elite environment under our specialist coaching staff throughout the winter and into the summer.”
