Wes Durston led the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to their first victory on their tour of South Africa with a four-run win versus Kwazulu Natal at Durban.
The fixture was completed on the same pitch that England defeated South Africa in the first Test last week. Captain Durston, opening the batting, hit 15 before claiming 1-37 from his nine overs as the touring party claimed a thrilling victory.
For most of the Kwazulu Natal innings it appeared that MCC’s first innings total of 228-8 in 45 overs would not be enough. But Worcestershire’s Charlie Morris held his nerve in the final over, bowling three dot balls to end the innings and secure victory for Durston’s side.
Neil Dexter and John Simpson had earlier shared an excellent fourth-wicket partnership of 136 in 22 overs. Dexter was the more aggressive of the two, hitting seven boundaries and three sixes in his 72 ball innings of 80. Simpson was more watchful, taking 61 balls to bring up his half century.
MCC will now travel to Cape Town and will begin a two day game against Western Province on 3 January.
