Tom Poynton and Shiv Thakor visited young children at Derwent Stepping Stones day nursery in Chaddesden who were celebrating their 25th Anniversary on Friday.

The players, attending the event on behalf of the Cricket Derbyshire Foundation, spent time playing small games of cricket with children aged 3 to 13 years at the event which was attended by local families.

For many, it was the first time they had tried cricket and Poynton and Thakor were providing help on how the game is played and how youngsters can get involved in the sport.

It was also an opportunity for youngsters to grab a photo with the Derbyshire duo and Freddie the Falcon, who was also attending the event.

Derwent Stepping Stones, who were awarded Good by Ofsted in December 2015, is located near The 3aaa County Ground in the Derwent ward.

The Cricket Derbyshire Foundation (Registered Charity No. 1155801) uses the power of sport, and specifically cricket, utilising the profile of Derbyshire County Cricket Club and its professional players to engage, inspire and motivate individuals to achieve and live positive and healthy lifestyles.
