Loan signing Luke Fletcher has been named in a 12-man squad for the county’s Specsavers County Championship opener against Gloucestershire at Bristol, starting on Sunday 17 April; 11am start.

The 27-year-old paceman has joined Derbyshire from Nottinghamshire on a month’s loan and goes into the squad alongside former teammate and fellow fast bowler, Andy Carter, who is also set to make his first-class debut for the Club.

Also set to make his first-class bow for Derbyshire is Kiwi batsman Neil Broom, who has signed for the entire season via a UK Passport. Fellow New Zealander, Hamish Rutherford, will captain the side with Billy Godleman unavailable with a fractured thumb. Also unavailable for the trip to Bristol due to injury is Scott Elstone.

57. Shiv Thakor
3. Wes Durston

Opposition

Gloucestershire come into Sunday’s game on the back of a convincing defeat at the hands of Essex during the opening week of the new season.

An Essex side containing Alastair Cook proved too much for the Bristol outfit with the England Captain hitting a century in the first innings, before an unbeaten 35 in the second innings as Essex came out on top by 10 wickets.

There were, however, a couple of impressive individual performances for Gloucestershire during the game with Captain and Wicketkeeper, Gareth Roderick hitting 88 and 58 in the first and second innings, respectively.

20-year-old bowler, Josh Shaw, signed on loan from Yorkshire, also found form during the match, taking four wickets in the first innings on just his second first-class appearance.

Gloucestershire squad: Chris Dent, Cameron Bancroft, Ian Cockbain, Gareth Roderick (c), Hamish Marshall, Benny Howell, Kieran Noema-Barnett, Jack Taylor, Josh Shaw, Liam Norwell, David Payne, Chris Liddle, Tom Hampton
