Hamish Rutherford has been named as Derbyshire’s Vice Captain for the 2016 season.

The New Zealand international, who is available for the entire summer, will assist new four-day Captain Billy Godleman in the Specsavers County Championship and Wes Durston in both one-day formats.

Rutherford, who captains Otago in New Zealand, featured for the Club in 14 fixtures across all formats in 2015, scoring 677 runs at an average of over 40.

He has also appeared in 16 Tests for the Black Caps, four ODIs and seven Twenty20 internationals.

Elite Performance Director, Graeme Welch said: “Hamish is an experienced international who already has a great relationship with the lads.

“It will be an opportunity for him to continue his leadership development after being named Otago Captain last year and he will bring some fresh ideas across all forms.

“He will now provide excellent support to Billy in his new role and to Wes as we push for success in all three competitions.”
