Welch names squad for Glamorgan clash

Graeme Welch has named a 13-man squad for thes Specsavers County Championship match with Glamorgan at The 3aaa County Ground, starting on Sunday 24 April.

All 12 of the squad for the recent draw at Gloucestershire have retained their place, whilst young leg-spinner Matthew Critchley has been added after his impressive performance in the Second XI’s win over Somerset this week, when he returned a five-wicket haul and hit a half century.

A number of batsmen will be looking to continue their fine form from the Gloucestershire draw, not least Chesney Hughes who hit 96 and 137 not out, and Wayne Madsen who scored 150 and 27 not out.

The match is Derbyshire’s first Specsavers County Championship match at The 3aaa County Ground of the 2016 season and Welch is looking to hit the ground running at home. Read his interview HERE.

Opposition

Glamorgan come into Sunday’s game on the back of a surprising defeat at home to Leicestershire in the previous round of Specsavers County Championship fixtures.

The Welsh outfit were comfortable overcome by 10 wicket by their opponents who gained a first innings lead before bowling the hosts out for 191 to set a target of 115 which they reached without losing a wicket.

There were, however, a few personal performances in the Glamorgan batting line-up with William Bragg, Chris Cooke, David Lloyd, Graham Wagg and Aneurin Donald all passing fifty during the match.
