Wes Durston is relishing the opportunity to lead Derbyshire in the NatWest T20 Blast again this year and is hoping to continue the Club’s progression in the format.

The all-rounder, who is Derbyshire’s all-time highest run-scorer in Twenty20 cricket, was named as the Club’s new limited overs skipper before the 2015 campaign, in which he led the Falcons to four victories.

Durston is now looking for continued progression this summer as the Falcons target a first quarter-final since 2005.

“We want to build on the improvements that we made last year and from the year before,” Durston said.

“We won more games last year and our target is to continue in that vein and win more games this year.

“We are confident that we can make that improvement. Everybody is a year older and more experienced. I know that we are going to be competitive with the squad that we have.

“I think the three New Zealanders we have signed will help us massively in terms of getting over the line in those tight fixtures.

“If you look at Rutherford, Broom and Neesham, you have three guys there with international experience. They are talented players and we’re looking forward to watching the guys contributing to performances this season.

“Jimmy Neesham is a very exciting and talented cricketer. He offers skill with both bat and ball which is a big bonus for us. I am sure the crowd are looking forward to seeing him helping us win some games.”

Durston added: “My position – captaining, batting at the top of the order and bowling my off-spin – is important to the team.

“I am learning on the job but I do have a lot of experience in white-ball cricket and I learnt a lot about the game last year. For my first year, I was pleased with how I did and I am hoping to build on that in 2016.”
