Ben Cotton took 5-31 as Derbyshire Second XI completed a dramatic win over Nottinghamshire in a rain-shortened Second XI Championship match at Notts Sports Club.
Matt Critchley also impressed with both bat and ball during the match that was heavily affected by the rain, with the whole of Day Two lost due to heavy showers in the East Midlands.
Having chosen to bat first on Day One, Derbyshire scored 305-8 from their first innings before declaring on the morning of Day Three to try and force a result.
Critchley top-scored with 86 whilst Harvey Hosein and Tom Milnes were also in the runs, scoring 50 and 42 respectively.
Both sides agreed to declare an innings each, meaning Nottinghamshire had one innings to chase down 306 to win on the final day.
After enjoying a run of good form in the Second XI in recent weeks, Cotton once again took centre stage during Nottinghamshire’s reply.
He took five wickets, including the prized scalp of the hosts’ top-scorer Sam Wood (62) during the 15 overs that he bowled.
Cotton was ably backed up by Critchley who continued his impressive performance by taking 3-53 with regular first-team opener Brendan Taylor one of his victims.
Elsewhere, there was a wicket apiece for Alex Hughes (1-10) and Tom Knight (1-11) as the visitors bowled their hosts out for 195 to complete an impressive victory by 110 runs.
