A strong Derbyshire Second XI side claimed two Twenty20 victories over Unicorns at Long Marston Cricket Club, with Jimmy Neesham making his first outing for the Club.

In Game One, Derbyshire fielded a strong side, which included seven players who faced Essex this week and the recently-arrived Neesham, with the new NatWest T20 Blast season getting underway on Saturday.

Derbyshire bowled first and restricted their hosts to 135-4 off their 20 overs. Captain Wes Durston (1-19), Alex Hughes (1-19), Andy Carter (1-26) and Matt Critchley (1-15) shared the wickets in a good bowling performance.

Durston (32 off 28 balls) and Hamish Rutherford (35 off 27 balls) got the Falcons off to a good start in reply, adding 57 for the first wicket. Neil Broom (24 off 19 balls) and Wayne Madsen continued where the openers had left off sharing a 54-run stand, before Broom was third man out.

It was left to Madsen – who top scored with an unbeaten 37 off 22 balls – and Neesham (7 not out off 3 balls) to see their side over the line with 21 balls remaining to claim victory by seven wickets.
