Centurion Shiv Thakor spoke to the media after Day Two of the Specsavers County Championship fixture versus Kent at The 3aaa County Ground.
Thakor hit his first century for Derbyshire, scoring 130 as part of a record-breaking 150-run stand for the eighth wicket with Tom Taylor, who hit a career-best 80, as the hosts posted 492 in their first innings.
Kent moved to 79-1 after 38 overs, with Ben Cotton claiming the wicket, before rain ended play midway through the final session.
Thakor said: “It was nice to finally get that hundred but more importantly it was nice to get a very good first innings total.
“I can’t change the past now, I’m fully focused on what’s to come from here and I’ve got to put this behind me, we’ve got 19 wickets to take and that’s the most important thing.
“Don’t get me wrong it’s a lovely feeling but it will mean a lot more if we get those 19 wickets over the next two days and get a win.
“I was more focused on getting past 450 for the team really, that was the main thing. Everyone talks about 400 but if you can get to 450 plus those extra 50 runs or so can make a difference and we got 92 more in the end.
“Tommy played brilliantly, huge credit to him, a career-best and I’m sure there will be many more runs to come from him if he carries on playing like that. He looks a proper batsman, he’s a proper cricketer and can be a genuine all-rounder.
“It was nice to get the record but the most important thing was that we both contributed to the team.”
