It’s just two days until Derbyshire Falcons host their opening home NatWest T20 Blast fixture of the season; versus Leicestershire Foxes on Friday 3 June.
With only two days to go, we look at the two local NatWest T20 Blast derbies supporters can look forward to this summer. Derbies versus Notts Outlaws and Yorkshire Vikings have been handed prime dates in 2016.
The Club is anticipating capacity crowds for both derbies, starting with the local clash against Notts Outlaws, which will take place on Friday 24 June at The 3aaa County Ground.
It was a fixture that the Falcons came out on top in last summer. Chesney Hughes top scored with 52 off 29 balls as the hosts posted 201-7 off their 20 overs, the county’s highest ever Twenty20 score at home.
Nathan Rimmington claimed 3-24, while Shiv Thakor (2-20) and Wes Durston (2-35) both picked up two apiece as the Outlaws were dismissed for 167 in the final over to give Derbyshire victory by 34 runs.
The fixture against Yorkshire Vikings – which was an advance sell-out in 2015 – will bring the curtain down on next summer’s Chesterfield Festival of Cricket on Sunday 10 July.
The Falcons also tasted victory in this fixture in 2015. Durston claimed career-best figures of 3-14 off his four overs as the visitors were restricted to 146-9 at the picturesque out-ground.
In reply, Hamish Rutherford smashed 40 off 24 balls, while Wayne Madsen top scored with 41 off 38 balls to see the Falcons to a four-wicket win in front of a packed Queen’s Park crowd.
