Having made his Specsavers County Championship and List A debuts during June, Will Davis hopes he can continue to impress and show what he can do on the big stage.

He made his four-day debut for Derbyshire in last week’s Specsavers County Championship match against Worcestershire and enjoyed a successful first outing, claiming three wickets. Previously, Davis was named in the line-up for the 50-over washout with Yorkshire.

The 20-year-old backed up his good start to life in the first-team with three wickets on the opening day against Kent on Sunday.

Davis has cited the positive influence of the senior players around him as a possible reason for his positive start and hopes he can continue to impress in order to cement his place in John Sadler’s team.

He said: “I’ve been around the first team more than I was last season so far this year, getting my 50 over debut, even though it was only an over, it’s nice to know that you’re there or thereabouts.

“I feel in good rhythm at the minute, over the last few days all of the boys have been bowling well. We’ve had clear plans and have stuck to them and been fairly rewarded I think.”

On his impressive speed, Davis added: “All of the boys are saying it’s coming out really well. I haven’t been clocked for a while.

“I’ve just got to try and keep doing what I’m doing, try not to change anything and see where that takes me.

“Tony Palladino is a great bowler and can run up all day and just smash an area, I think that’s something that us younger bowlers need to learn and try to achieve, keep working and working hard.

“He’s been around the game a long time so his tactical knowledge as well – what to bowl and when to bowl – is very good, so to learn off him like that is excellent.

“I think hopefully now that I have been given a chance I can really show what I can do.”
