Day One abandoned

Monday 20th June 2016
Written by Danny Painter

Day One of Derbyshire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Worcestershire at Derby was abandoned without a ball bowled due to persistent heavy rain.

An early lunch at 12.30pm was called as early as 9.30am, before a series of inspections after the lunch interval that eventually forced the umpires to abandon play for the day.

The weather had managed to eventually hold off on Friday for the NatWest T20 Blast clash against Birmingham Bears, but heavy rain throughout Sunday evening into Monday morning had a detrimental effect on the pitch.

Weather permitting, the fixture will commence tomorrow morning at 11am.

Derbyshire are in action on Friday evening in the NatWest Twenty20 Blast against local rivals Notts Outlaws and, with the weather set to pick up as the week goes on, will be hopeful of a full evening’s play.

Supporters can save 20% by purchasing their NatWest T20 Blast matchday tickets in advance of the day of the game. Buy online, over the phone by calling 01332 388 101 or in person at The 3aaa County Ground.
