Derbyshire return to four-day cricket

Sunday 19th June 2016
Written by Danny Painter

Derbyshire return to Specsavers County Championship action from Monday 20 June, with Worcestershire the visitors to The 3aaa County Ground.

The hosts have not been in red-ball action in almost a month, but newly-installed Head Coach John Sadler has named an unchanged 14-man squad from the defeat to Sussex at the end of May.

Opponents Worcestershire were relegated from Division One at the end of last season, and have adapted to life in the bottom tier in reasonable fashion, securing one win, one defeat, one abandonment and four draws from their seven fixtures to date.

Derbyshire squad to face Worcestershire

1. Billy Godleman
22. Chesney Hughes
72. Hamish Rutherford
77. Wayne Madsen
4. Neil Broom
57. Shiv Thakor
20. Matt Critchley
23. Tom Poynton
15. Tom Taylor
28. Tony Palladino
36. Ben Cotton
44. Will Davis

Opposition

Worcestershire welcome Tom Fell into their Championship squad for the first time this season, having gone through successful surgery for testicular cancer.

The batsman’s return to action is a welcome one for everyone in cricket, and we wish him the very best.

Fell was Worcestershire’s leading run-scorer in the Championship last season with three centuries – and the youngest to achieve 1,000 runs in Division One.

Pears Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: “We haven’t finalised the team but Tom is in the squad of 12 and, to get in that squad of 12 after what he has been through, is a tremendous effort.”

Worcestershire currently boast the highest amount of batting bonus points in the division, but suffered their first defeat of the season last time out at Gloucestershire.

Worcestershire squad: Mitchell, D’Oliveira, Clarke, Fell, Kervezee, Kohler-Cadmore, Whiteley, Cox, Leach, Henry, Barnard, Shantry
