Rob Hemmings claimed 4-58, but Derbyshire Second XI endured a tough Day One of the Second XI Championship fixture versus Durham at Darlington Cricket Club.
Batting first, the Seconds lost wickets regularly throughout their innings to be bowled out for 119 inside 43 overs, with Durham’s Adam Hickey returning 3-7.
The top-scorer for Derbyshire was Greg Cork with 17 whilst Cricket Derbyshire Academy, in partnership with the University of Derby batsman Ryan Bramwell hit 16.
The visitors took three early wickets to threaten a fightback during the Durham innings, as Tom Taylor picked up the first before Harry White took two.
Hemmings then got his first – Gordon Muchall lbw – to reduce Durham to 79-4 but Sameet Brar and James Weighall added 118 for the fifth wicket before Weighal fell to Scott Elstone for 84 and Jonathan Tattersall had Brar run out for 40 in quick succession.
During an impressive three-over spell, Hemmings then secured the final three wickets of the day but Durham still ended the day on top on 235-9 with a lead of 116 going into the second day.
