As Derbyshire Falcons get set to take on Lancashire Lightning on Wednesday 13 July, we take a look at South African, Alviro Petersen, as our One to Watch in the NatWest T20 Blast at The 3aaa County Ground.

So far this season the 35-year-old looks to be on the way to amassing his highest season run total since 2011 when he scored 423 in 16 matches.

In his last four NatWest T20 Blast matches for the Lightning, Petersen has scored 140 runs including an unbeaten 68 against Worcestershire Rapids.

This season…

So far in this season’s Blast the South African has accumulated a total of 204 runs including eleven fours and six sixes.

Petersen knows how to string partnerships together. So far in the 2016 white ball season he contributed to a 94 opening partnership in 5.4 overs with Jos Buttler.

A long standing Lancashire List A record was also broken earlier this year when Luke Procter and Petersen put together an unbeaten 151 partnership breaking the previous record of 146 which had stood since 1976.

Previous Seasons…

His Twenty20 debut in England came for Glamorgan in 2011 where he Captained the side and scored 72 in a win against Middlesex.

Petersen has played for three clubs in the NatWest T20 Blast, as well as the Welsh outfit, and now Lancashire, he also plied his trade in the South West for Somerset in 2014.

A well-travelled and experienced cricketer, the 35-year-old frequents his home country for the Ram Slam T20 Challenge and the T20 Champions League for the Lions.
