Head Coach, John Sadler, says his Derbyshire side will continue to battle to keep their NatWest T20 Blast hopes alive with the visit of Lancashire Lightning to The 3aaa County Ground on Wednesday night; 6.30pm start.

The Falcons were narrowly beaten by Yorkshire Vikings by one run on Sunday afternoon. Kane Williamson, ranked as the second-best batsman in the world by the ICC, top scored with 65 before Adil Rashid returned 3-20 off his four overs to see the visitors to victory in a thriller at Derby.

Derbyshire now have an important match versus the Lightning in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Derby on Wednesday, and Sadler says his side will continue to fight for qualification.

“While ever it’s mathematically possible we will keep playing every game to win and keep striving for that top-four place,” he said.

“We never give up. We’ll have to win all three games we’ve got left now and hope for a little bit of fortune now with results from games elsewhere.

“Once you get on a run in Twenty20 cricket and get that momentum you can quite easily win three games on the bounce. While ever it’s possible we will keep going.”

On the narrow Yorkshire defeat, Sadler added: “We should have won and on another day we will. It’s very tough to take, it’s a fickle game and that’s three games we’ve lost now by one run. It’s why we love t20 but it’s also frustrating at times when you are on the wrong end.

“I think we were right to attack that end in the 19th over and if one of those balls goes over the rope then we win the game, simple as that. Unfortunately, we had a couple of dots and obviously those two wickets in that over.

“A yard either way or another foot higher and that shot Jimmy Neesham was out to wins the game. It’s frustrating but I think we played it right, pretty much to our plan, we just didn’t quite get over the line because we didn’t quite execute at the end.”
