John Sadler praised his Derbyshire side after the six wicket win over Lancashire Lightning on Wednesday night which kept alive their hopes for a quarter-final spot.

Jimmy Neesham claimed career-best figures of 4-35 and hit 23 not out, while Wes Durston top scored with 51 and Hamish Rutherford smashed 47 off 27 balls in the victory in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

The Falcons Head Coach says his side must now keep the momentum going and build on the win in the final two group games, starting with Worcestershire Rapids at home on Friday 22 July.

“It’s a much better feeling, a much better drive home being on the right side of the result,” he said.

“The lads played really well. A couple of areas to still improve on, but we played some good cricket. It’s important that we now keep our foot on the gas in our last two group games.

“We will continue to fight and we’ll be aiming for two wins. That’s all we can do and we will have hope that is enough to get us through.

He added: “We were pleased with where we were at half time they looked like getting 180 plus at one point, the last three overs the bowlers dragged it back really well and ultimately that could have won us the game.

“We know that the partnership at the top of the order is very good for us and we know that if one or both of them fire then we will be in a good position after the power play.

“Jimmy bowled brilliantly for us and has been brilliant in the dressing room and helped the younger lads too he’s had some good contributions with the bat and we know that if he performs then we will be somewhere near to winning.

“We bat deep and there was a slight change in the order tonight that allowed Jimmy to come in earlier to win the game.

“Having Mads come in lower down, in a pressure situation as one of the best players in the country and take the pressure off with loft over backward point was a big lift, it was amazing really, he’s a great luxury to have.”
