Written by Lewis Angell

Fresh off the back of victory against Lancashire on Wednesday night in the NatWest T20 Blast, Derbyshire have named their squad for the Bell & Co Tour Match versus Sri Lanka A, on Friday 15 July; 2pm start.

After impressive performances for the Second XI, Charlie Macdonell and Tom Wood are set to get their opportunities in the first team against the tourists.

Ben Cotton comes back into the fold after returning to full fitness while Rob Hemmings also returns to the first team squad.

Sadler said. “Ben is back to full fitness and could have a run out on Friday with a view to playing on Sunday and we will see how that goes. This match is also a good opportunity for a few of the young guys to show what they can do and push their case.”

Opposition

Sri Lanka endured mixed fortunes when touring England this summer. They played three tests, five one-day matches and a solitary T20 without taking a win.

The only player in the Sri Lank A squad to face England this summer was Ramith Rambukwella who scored 19 in the t20. His career best List A bowling figures stand at 4-30.

Bowlers, Asitha and Vishwa Fernando have both bowled impressively during the tour, with the former taking 5-33 against Pakistan A at Leicester and the latter 5-37 at Chester-le Street.

With the bat Roshen Silva has 2128 List A runs to his name, the 27 year old has scored 324 runs in three First Class matches, including a 109 at Durham.

Mahela Udawatte perhaps poses the biggest threat for Derbyshire, the 29 year old has 4586 List A runs to his name with a top score of 161.

Sri Lanka A Squad: SMA Priyanjan*, KIC Asalanka, M Bhanuka, N Dickwella, AM Fernando, MVT Fernando, PLS Gamage, MDUS Jayasundera, NGRP Jayasuriya, SS Pathirana, AK Perera, CAK Rajitha, RLB Rambukwella, ARS Silva, ML Udawatte, MS Warnapura
