Red-ball cricket back at Queen's Park

Sunday 3rd July 2016
Written by Danny Painter

John Sadler has named a 13-man squad as Derbyshire take on Northamptonshire in the Specsavers County Championship at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield from Monday 4 July.

Harvey Hosein is set to don the gloves in red-ball cricket for the first time this campaign, having made his return to the side in the recent NatWest T20 Blast win over Worcestershire.

Also named in the squad is Tom Milnes who has recently recovered from an injury and made his comeback in the Second XI Trophy win over Notts Outlaws last week, when he claimed two wickets.

After two recent draws against Worcestershire and Kent in recent weeks, Derbyshire will be looking to continue their red-ball improvement when they take on Northamptonshire in the picturesque Queen’s Park.

Will Davis and Tom Taylor, who is out for the rest of the season with a stress fracture of the lower back, are both unavailable through injury.

Opposition

Like their hosts, Northamptonshire are yet to taste victory in a red-ball fixture in 2016, having drawn seven and won one of their eight fixtures to date.

The standout performer for them in all formats, but especially four-day cricket, has been Ben Duckett. The 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman sits in second place in the scoring charts for the division, having amassed 718 runs in eight matches.

The next highest scorer for the county in the format is Adam Rossington with 430 and Jake Libby in third on 293 runs, who has now returned to Nottinghamshire after his loan spell.

Ben Sanderson, Rory Kleinveldt and Azahrullah are the only Northamptonshire bowlers to have achieved double-figures in terms of wicket-taking so far this campaign, but they can call upon the experience and guile of Monty Panesar who recently returned to the club.

Northamptonshire squad: To be announced.
