Derbyshire Women moved closer to promotion in the ECB Women’s County Championship Division Three thanks to a 200-run victory over Cheshire.

Rachel Hopkins hit an unbeaten 117 in the win that see Derbyshire remain top of the league with just one game remaining, at home to Norfolk Cricket Board Women this weekend at Spondon.

Derbyshire batted first and made Cheshire work hard for their wickets. Contributions from Charlotte Horton (23), Emily Marriott (29) and Sarah Glenn (22) supported Hopkins during the 50 overs, and a quick fire 64 not out from Lia Kellogg gave Derbyshire a strong first innings total of 273-4.

Derbyshire made early breakthroughs in Cheshire’s reply, reducing them to 39-3 after 20 overs. But Glenn (3-19) and Marriott (3-14) ripped through the Cheshire middle and lower order to eventually see their opponents 73 all out, with Derbyshire claiming a comprehensive 200-run victory.

They need just two points from the next and final game to confirm their promotion and claim the title of Division Three Champions.

Derbyshire Women in their final game, and hopefully see them secure promotion, are in action against Norfolk Women at Spondon Cricket Club this Sunday 4 September with an 11am start.
