Rob Hemmings hit 58, but Leicestershire Second XI remained in control of the three-day friendly at Desborough Cricket Club.

Derbyshire started the day on 51-2, after the hosts declared their first innings on 381-8. Chris Whittock (27) added four runs to his overnight score before he was bowled by Ollie Freckingham (2-68). The Leicestershire paceman then struck again, trapping Ben Slawinski leg before for 29.

David Hussain arrived at the crease with the score on 92-4, and together with Greg Cork, the pair put on a 42-run partnership before Tom Wells struck a double blow to dismiss Hussain (6) and Cork (46) in the same over.

With two new batsmen at the crease, batting pair Rob Hemmings and Ben Cotton provided much-needed resistance with a seventh-wicket stand worth 63. George Dockrell got the breakthrough for the hosts, with his sole wicket of the match, when he had Cotton caught for 30.

Hemmings reached a half century (58 off 93 balls), before he was undone by James Skyes. The left-arm spinner struck twice in the 37th over to dismiss Robert Peat (0), who faced just one delivery before he was pinned leg before; Derbyshire 229-9.

An 18-run cameo from number eleven Daniel Gibbs steered Derbyshire to 252 before Ben Raine took his third wicket of the match, with the Derbyshire finishing the innings trailing Leicestershire by 131 runs.

Opening the bowling for the visitors, Ben Cotton charged in to dismiss Rahib Ali (0) and Tom Wells (1) in consecutive overs. Ali lasted just four balls before he was bowled by the right-handed paceman, before he trapped Wells leg before.

Leicestershire suffered a middle-order collapse as Rob Peat, Greg Cork and Ben Slawanski took one wicket apiece to restrict the hosts to 82-5.

Derbyshire will start the third and final day 249 runs in arrears, with Leicestershire finishing the day on 120-5, with opening batsmen Lewis Hill (64*) and Harry Swindells (12*) the not out batsmen.
