Smit scored 200 not out from 281 balls, with 17 fours and four sixes, helping Derbyshire to 519-7 declared, with Rob Hemmings contributing 85 in a partnership of 211 with Smit.
Derbyshire took three early wickets in Glamorgan’s reply, but Neil Brand (67*) and Andrew Salter (54*) fought back to earn a draw for the visitors.
Starting the day on 364-6, Smit and Hemmings scored quickly during the morning session to establish a healthy first innings lead.
Hemmings reached his half century and Smit reached his 150 as the pair put on 211 runs for the seventh wicket, from just 263 balls.
Hemmings eventually departed to the bowling of Glamorgan’s first innings centurion Neil Brand (1-47) for 85, before Callum Parkinson (3*) arrived at the crease to help Smit to his double century.
As soon as Smit reached the landmark, captain Greg Cork declared, giving Derbyshire a first innings lead of 232, with Glamorgan having the best part of two sessions to bat.
Ben Cotton (2-14) bowled economically at the start of the innings as he did earlier in the match in Glamorgan’s first innings, taking two early wickets to leave the away side 15-2.
Brand (67*) and Tom Cullen (20) put on 58 for the third wicket before Rob Hemmings bowled Cullen, Glamorgan were 73-3 and with a couple more wickets, Derbyshire had an outside chance of victory.
But Brand once again frustrated Derbyshire’s attack as he did in the first innings, along with Andrew Salter to force a draw for the away side, with Glamorgan finishing on 153-3.
