Ireland international wicketkeeper Gary Wilson has joined Derbyshire on a three-year deal and is looking forward to contributing to winning matches for his new county.

The 30-year old is currently in South Africa for a tri-series against Australia and the Proteas and will join the Club from Surrey at the end of the season.

After playing for Surrey for 11 years, Wilson says now is the right time has come to move on and is excited by the blend of youth and experience already in the Derbyshire squad that he will link up with during the off-season.

“It’s come at a good time in my career, I needed a fresh start,” Wilson said. “I’m grateful for the team at Derbyshire showing confidence in me and obviously I will try and repay them as much as I can over the next three years.

“I’ll be looking to bring all my previous experience to the Club but I’m also aware that there will be plenty of other guys with experience here already.

“There’s a good mix of youth and experience. It’s a young squad but there is some experience around with Wayne Madsen, Billy Godleman and Tony Palladino.

“I still have a lot to offer across all forms of the game,” added Wilson. “I’m looking forward to hopefully putting in a few good performances for the Club.

“I’m always there to lend a hand and be someone to talk to if that’s what’s needed and offer advice. First and foremost I’ve got to try and do my own job as well and hopefully set an example that way.

“I’ll be looking to do my best whenever I step out on the pitch and look to contribute in any way I can. We’ve got to look to compete across all forms and I’m going there to win games of cricket.”
