Chance to Shine have put the spotlight on a young Derbyshire cricketer hoping to one day progress and represent the first team at The 3aaa County Ground.

A pupil at Chinley Primary School in Derbyshire, 11-year old Caleb Winfield, has every intention of one day playing for the Club one day after being spotted by a Chance to Shine coach.

“I sort of knew it was going to be my sport when I started playing it,” said Winfield.

“It’s a good feeling, wearing the badge. I want to play for Derbyshire when I’m older and maybe play for England”

Chance to Shine, a national charity which continues to promote cricket amongst children throughout the country, first spotted Winfield two years ago. He is now part of the Derbyshire performance pathway.

Chance to Shine coach, Tom Coxhead said: “He is someone the kids can look up to. He can be a bit of a role model when it comes to every game with his attitude and also his ability.”

Since joining the player development programme, the aspiring youngster has gone on to captain the under 11s.

His Head Teacher, Peter Lambert added: “Caleb always had leadership qualities and him being captain at Derbyshire has brought that out a little bit more. We are really proud of what he’s achieved at Derbyshire.”
