DerbyshireTV spoke to Lead Physio Fran Clarkson as the first team squad started their preparations for the 2017 season with fitness testing and physical training at The 3aaa County Ground.

The team reported back for pre-season training last week for fitness testing, which included the yo-yo intermittent recovery test and a number of physical tests. This week, the team were drafted into their specialist bowling and batting groups to gain focused training.

The bowler’s endured medicine ball throw-downs and mobility exercises, while the batsmen, including new signing Gary Wilson, were put through their paces with a series of sprints, before finishing with individual gym sessions.

Working with the team for the first time, new Lead Physiotherapist, Fran Clarkson, said: “All the work they’re doing now will build them up for their first match in April.

“They had down time over October and we just have to start them at a certain level and build them up with various activities – be that strength, bowling or batting.

“What they’ve been doing in this session might seem a distance away from April but everything counts.”
