Wayne Madsen spoke to DerbyshireTV on the first day back at The 3aaa County Ground as the squad began preparations for the 2017 season.

Madsen, who is preparing for his ninth year with the Club, says he’s excited to be back but insists the winter months will be key as the players prepare for the new campaign.

He said: “It’s nice to have a bit of a rest and switch off from cricket but I’m quite excited to get back in – it’s obviously good to see the guys again and nice to start building up into the season

“We need to get our bodies physically strong to last a season but also there’s the technical aspects of the game that we work on- so it’s combination of the two.

“Making sure strength-wise we are building up to April and that we’ve got the sustainable strength to last all the way through the season.

“From a cricket point of view, if there’s any technical aspects individuals want to work on we do that, but then we also plan as a team and strategies for the season ahead.”
