Chris Grant says the composition of the Club’s new Supervisory Board, which is aligned with Sport England’s Code of Sport Governance, will lead the way on modern governance in cricket.

Commenting on the newly announced proposed Supervisory Board, Grant revealed that the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) see Derbyshire as a model for other first-class counties to follow.

Grant said: “Since Sport England unveiled its new Code of Sport Governance in 2016, we have looked closely at the implications of the new code on our own model of governance.

“Boards and governing bodies of all sports are being actively encouraged to modernise and get better at reflecting the diverse communities that we represent.

“Not only will we be able to grow the game of cricket faster since we’ll be more open to the opportunities out there, but those sports that are slow to change could ultimately see a cut in central government funding.

“After the announcement of our own governance review back in December, it became clear that Derbyshire had an opportunity to lead the move in cricket to bring our own governing bodies more into line with Sport England’s Code of Governance.

“We will have a Supervisory Board full of experienced and professionally qualified members to lead us into a new era of growth for the game of cricket in Derbyshire.

“We will also have a Board which is more broadly reflective of our community. If we are to grow the game at all levels and bring new people to watch Derbyshire, we will benefit from leadership that has fresh ideas, energy and a connection with our diverse community.

“Colin Graves, ECB Chairman, has congratulated Derbyshire on leading the way with our proposed governance changes and we should be very proud of the transition plan that is now underway.”
