Briggs of Burton have extended their support of women’s cricket in Derbyshire by sponsoring the Derbyshire Women’s cricket team for the third successive season.
Derbyshire Women were crowned ECB Women’s County Championship Division Three champions in 2016, which completed a double-promotion winning year after they also sealed promotion to County Championship T20 Second Division.
Process engineers to the brewing and distilling industries, Briggs have been long-standing supporters of cricket in the county, having put their name behind a number of innovative projects at the Club.
Most recently, they sponsored the Briggs of Burton Pre-Season Marquee at The 3aaa County Ground, allowing the squad to train in familiar conditions in the build-up to the new season.
As part of the Club’s successful ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 bid, Briggs of Burton manufactured a giant set of stumps at the gateway to the city on the Pentagon Roundabout. The 4.5 tonne giant stumps were funded by over 60 local businesses who backed the bid.
Derbyshire Chief Executive, Simon Storey said: “We’re delighted to extend our long-standing partnership with Briggs of Burton.
“2017 will be a special year for the women’s game in Derbyshire with the ICC Women’s World Cup in June, which will showcase Derby to a global audience.
“It’s also an opportunity for us to create a lasting legacy and we hope the opportunity to watch the best female players in the world in Derby will inspire more women and girls to play cricket.”
Briggs of Burton Chief Executive, Gareth Cure added: “Last season was very successful for the Derbyshire Women’s team, with a great group of players, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements again this year.”
