Captain Billy Godleman praised the fightback against Kent, but wants his team to start games quicker and build pressure on the opposition.
Derbyshire started slowly with the ball, but ultimately took 20 wickets against Kent, including another impressive display from Will Davis. The young seamer now has 13 wickets in the Specsavers County Championship this season, at an average of 16.
Godleman said: “The first 90 minutes of the match was disappointing in that we conceded too many runs, but the way in which the group stuck together and fought our way back into the game, not once, but twice, was really pleasing to see.
“Moving forward I’d like to think we can learn from this and next time we arrive at the opposition’s ground and put them in, that we’ll start much better than we did here.
“There were some real positives. Will Davis has taken a handful of wickets in the game and was threatening every time he had the ball in his hand. We took 20 wickets in this game so once we have our bowling attack at full strength and are able to build pressure on teams, we will be moving in the right direction.”
Tony Palladino claimed his 250th first-class wicket for Derbyshire in the match and Gary Wilson hit 97 in the second innings, and Godleman believes the experience of both players is important to the Club.
“I’m so pleased for Tony [Palladino], he gives a lot, not just to his own personal performance, but to thew whole Club and squad so I am really pleased to see him pass 250 first-class wickets for the Club.
“His performances over the last two games show why he is still a very important part of the team for us.”
“Gary [Wilson] was obviously gutted, but the way in which he played was Gary to a tee. He played with lots of guts and courage as well as a high amount of skill. We’re really fortunate to have his skills and experience at the Club.”
