Batsman John Hancock has been called up to represent Derbyshire Second XI this month, following his impressive performance for a North Staffs & South Cheshire Select XI on Saturday.
The opener, who plays for Porthill Park Cricket Club, hit an unbeaten 88 from 105 balls in the 40 over fixture against a Derbyshire XI at Moddershall Cricket Club.
The innings, which included eight boundaries, has earned Hancock a call-up to the Club’s Second XI, when he will take part in two matches in April.
Both against Lancashire, Hancock has been selected for the limited overs match at Hem Heath Cricket Club on Monday 17 April, followed by the three-day Second XI Championship fixture starting Tuesday 18 April.
Director of Cricket, Kim Barnett said: “Our Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby has some young cricketers in it, and there is a category between that age group and the professionals who we will continue to monitor and provide opportunities.
“John Hancock fits that bill. He showed against us, playing very well to hit an unbeaten 88, that he is still a young guy with plenty of talent and a desire to make it in the game.
“I have known him for quite some time and he has earned his opportunity in these matches. Particularly as the matches take place in Staffordshire, it’s home territory and we look forward to seeing how he gets on.”
