Jeevan Mendis made his first appearance for Derbyshire as Second XI beat Unicorns by four wickets in a 50-over friendly at Ticknall Cricket Club.
The Sri Lanka international claimed two wickets and hit 40 as the Second XI claimed victory in their first match of the summer.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Derbyshire restricted the visitors to 278-7 off their 50 overs.
Mendis, who arrived in the UK on Friday, returned figures of 2-58 off his 10 overs, while Tom Taylor (2-52) and Ben Cotton (2-40) also claimed two wickets apiece.
Matt Critchley (1-52) was also in the wickets, while former Nottinghamshire batsman Sam Kelsall top scored for Unicorns with 88.
Captain Ben Slater led the reply with 69 and shared a 73-run opening stand with Charlie Macdonell (36). Tom Wood and Mendis both batted nicely to hit 41 and 40 respectively.
It was then left to Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby batsman Callum Brodrick to see the Second XI over the line with an over to spare, hitting an unbeaten 33.
