All-rounder Luis Reece says the side must play their brand of cricket in the first game of the season against Northamptonshire on Friday.
The 26-year-old, who signed a two-year contract in October, is looking forward to his first season with Derbyshire and he can’t wait to get going this week.
The former Lancashire man enjoyed a good run out with both bat and ball against Loughborough MCCU last week, hitting 58 in the second innings and claiming figures of 3-22 in the first innings.
Reece said: “It has been a good five weeks since I arrived at the Club from my spell in Australia. The boys have been working really hard and we have had a couple of practice games and now we are in the outdoor nets and are ready to go.
He added: “Northants have a lot of talent in their side but as do we so we have got to make sure we are on our mark. We have got to be aggressive and play our brand of cricket and if we do that there is no reason we can’t finish on top.”
