Wood hits ton in Second XI win over Northants

Tom Wood smashed seven sixes to top score with 126 as Derbyshire Second XI beat Northants by 93 runs in a One-Day Trophy fixture at Denby CC.

The 22-year-old led the way after the hosts elected to bat first, striking 13 fours and seven maximums in his 97-ball innings to top score with 126.

Alex Hughes (66 off 51 balls) and Luis Reece (51 off 62 balls) both added half centuries, while there were also runs for Ben Slater (24) and Charlie Macdonell (21) as Derbyshire posted 314-8 off their 50 overs.

Hughes was the pick of the bowlers in reply taking 3-44, while Macdonell (2-16) and Luis Reece (2-33) both claimed two wickets apiece.

There were also wickets for Tom Taylor (1-35) and Tom Milnes (1-33), and a run out for Slater, as Northants were dismissed for 222 in the 33rd over to give Derbyshire victory by 93 runs.

The Second XI are next in action against Yorkshire on Thursday 27 April in a One-Day Trophy fixture at York Cricket Club.
