Critchley hits ton in Seconds defeat

Matt Critchley hit 135 but Derbyshire Seconds lost to Warwickshire by 10 wickets on the final day of the Second XI Championship fixture at Portland Road.

Derbyshire began the final day on 142-3 in their second innings, trailing Warwickshire by 209 runs.

Callum Broderick was lbw to Mark Adair for 45, bringing Harvey Hosein to the crease to join Critchley. The pair added 77 before Hosein was caught by Adair off the bowling of Aaron Thomason for 27.

Singh soon followed, caught by Calvin Harrison off Thomason for ten. Tom Milnes was run out by Liam Banks for 16 before Adair claimed two wickets, first Greg Cork bowled for 27, then Alfie Gleadall caught by Banks for ten.

Critchley was the last man out with the score on 376, caught behind by Alex Mellor off Boyd Rankin for a well-made 135 which included 19 fours.

Set 25 to win, the Warwickshire openers got the hosts over the line in 2.3 overs, Curran unbeaten on 21 and Banks on four.

The Derbyshire Second XI are next in Second XI Championship Cricket on Monday 5 June when they face Northamptonshire at Belper Meadows CC.
