Derbyshire hit over 300 for the second time in three days but Notts Outlaws, with nine internationally capped players in their side, chased a revised total of 286-6 to win by four wickets in the final over.
An opening stand of 148 from Billy Godleman and Ben Slater, as well as Wayne Madsen’s unbeaten 66, propelled Derbyshire to 303-4, their highest List A score versus Notts Outlaws.
England international Alex Hales lead the Notts reply, hitting 77 from 58 balls, and was backed up by Riki Wessels (67) and Samit Patel (59) as Notts achieved the total required with just four balls to spare.
After Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bat, Godleman and Slater both reached their half-centuries in just under 20 overs.
The opening partnership was broken when Slater was out for a well-made 72, including eight fours, run out by a direct hit from Wessels as the openers chased a quick single.
Shiv Thakor (17) was out four overs later after being caught by Patel in the covers off the bowling of James Pattinson.
Godleman batted nicely throughout his innings but fell just ten short of his century, caught by Pattinson out in the deep off Patel. The Derbyshire captain top-scored and hit seven fours and one six.
With Derbyshire at 209-3, Madsen began to up the rate and carry the Falcons towards a 300 total with 66 not out from 55 balls. Daryn Smit joined Madsen after Godleman’s dismissal, scoring 21 before being caught by Stuart Broad at mid-off from Pattinson’s bowling.
Gary Wilson came in and accelerated the scoring, hitting Jake Ball for three fours in a row as he scored 23 from 14 balls and Derbyshire closed their innings on 303-4.
Derbyshire took a wicket in the second over of the Notts reply as Lumb (6) was caught by Alex Hughes at long off from the bowling of Wayne Madsen (2-26).
Hales hit 11 fours and two sixes before he was bowled missing a straight one from Matt Critchley (1-53), Notts reduced to 130-2.
Wessels reached his half-century not long after the dismissal of Hales, but he was caught spectacularly by a diving Alex Hughes at long off from the bowling of Jeevan Mendis (2-53).
With 13 overs of the Nottinghamshire chase remaining, there was a brief rain delay resulting in the loss of three overs and a revised target of 286 runs to win.
Derbyshire took two quick wickets, with Mendis and Madsen dismissing Brendan Taylor (28) and Patel (59) to bring the Notts score to 245-5 with 6.4 overs remaining.
Chris Read was dismissed just three overs later as he was bowled by Thakor (1-43) with the Outlaws needing 15 more runs with 21 balls remaining.
Billy Root was unbeaten on 23 and Pattinson on eight as they guided the Outlaws to their four-wicket victory with four balls remaining.
