Derbyshire Falcons have named a 14-man squad for the Royal London One-Day Cup match versus local rivals Notts Outlaws on Tuesday 2 May at The 3aaa County Ground; 11am start.

Matt Critchley has been called up to the squad for the first time this summer, along with fellow spinner and Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby player Hamidullah Qadri.

Tony Palladino, Will Davis and Rob Hemmings miss out through injury, whilst Hardus Viljoen is still unavailable but continues to work his way back up to full match fitness.

Derbyshire trail Nottinghamshire 37-20 in previous stagings of this fixture, however they go into the match on the back of a record win against Northants Steelbacks and currently have three points from a possible four.

Opposition

Notts Outlaws have lost both their opening Royal London One-Day Cup matches this season but are likely to field a strong side at The 3aaa County Ground.

The Outlaws finished on the same points as Derbyshire Falcons (7) in the group stages last year, but finished one place above Derbyshire on net run rate.

The local derby is set to feature a number of England internationals, with Michael Lumb and Alex Hales likely to open the batting and Stuart Broad and Jake Ball providing a dangerous bowling attack.

Harry Gurney will be another bowler to watch, the tricky seamer took 19 wickets at an average of under 20 in last year’s competition. Riki Wessels will be a threat with the bat and Samit Patel offers middle-order runs and economical slow left-arm orthodox bowling.

Notts Outlaws Squad: Brendan Taylor, James Pattinson, Chris Read, Stuart Broad, Riki Wessels, Alex Hales, Harry Gurney, Luke Fletcher, Samit Patel, Greg Smith, Jake Ball, Michael Lumb, Billy Root.

Pre-Match Talk

After his match-winning performance versus Northants Steelbacks, Shiv Thakor says Derbyshire are confident going into the Royal London One-Day Cup derby against Notts Outlaws.

Thakor hit 130, his highest ever limited overs score, as part of a record run chase for Derbyshire in List A cricket as the Falcons successfully chased down 308 for victory over Northants. Billy Godleman added 95 as part of a 168-run stand with Thakor.

Thakor said: “It’s been a great day for us all. We held our nerve, stuck to our plan and got over the line against a very good limited-overs side.

“It was special to get it, my first hundred, but it is always more special when it is part of a winning cause. The main thing was that we got the two points that we so desperately wanted.”

“Billy played fantastically throughout the whole innings and really deserved a hundred. Him and [Ben] Slater got us off to a great start.”

Turning his attention to the clash against Notts Outlaws, Thakor is keen for the squad to build on their confidence and put in a strong performance.

“We move onto the Notts game on Tuesday so it’s good to get a win going into that game,” said Thakor.

“They have got plenty of internationals, it is a very good and very experienced team. But we have got to do what we do and give our best performance.

“We will be confident coming in with a win and we’ve got to focus on ourselves. We’ve got to put our best 100 overs of cricket together.”
