Alfie Gleadall and Hamiduallah Qadri made their first senior appearances for Derbyshire, but the tour fixture against South Africa A was abandoned due to rain with just 20.1 overs bowled.
After a rain affected morning the game was limited to 41 overs per innings. Captain Tom Milnes won the toss and elected to bowl, with Ben Cotton making an early breakthrough, Aiden Markram bowled for 11.
Theunis de Bruyn and Reeza Hendricks both made quick half centuries as South Africa A recovered from 11-1 to 145-1 after 20.1 overs.
However, heavy rain returned forcing an early abandonment, de Bruyn unbeaten on 65 and Hendricks not out on 68.
