Shiv Thakor top scored with 60 and Hardus Viljoen took three wickets, but Worcestershire Rapids claimed victory by five wickets (D/L) in rain-affected match at The 3aaa County Ground.

Thakor’s 60, and a brisk 37 off 24 balls from Alex Hughes, helped see Derbyshire to 209-8 off their reduced 36 overs after rain affected play, setting Worcestershire 218 to win via Duckworth/Lewis.

Despite three wickets from Viljoen (3-55) Half centuries from Kohler-Cadmore and Daryll Mitchell saw Worcestershire to a comfortable five-wicket win with four overs remaining to top the Royal London One-Day Cup North Group.

Worcestershire Rapids won the toss and put Derbyshire in to bat. Ben Slater made 14before he was first out, caught by Daryl Mitchell at second slip from the bowling of Ed Barnard (3-37).

Just 15 deliveries later the players left the field due to the rain with the Falcons at 34-1 with 10.4 overs gone, reducing the game to 36 overs for each side.

Barnard struck again just after play resumed as Billy Godleman was caught by Brett D’Oliveira at point for 18.

Wayne Madsen (22) shared a 51-run stand with Thakor in difficult conditions as Derbyshire looked to build a challenging total.

Shiv Thakor (60) continued to bat well and brought up his half-century off 56 deliveries, including five fours.  He shared another fifty partnership, this time with Hughes who dominated the scoring.

Hughes hit three sixes in his 37 off just 34 balls, including one that went over the new OKI Business & Media Centre, before he and Thakor both fell in quick succession.

Jeevan Mendis (5) and Luis Reece (9) soon followed as Derbyshire reached 179-7 with three overs remaining of their innings. Matt Critchley reached 17 off 15 balls, including two fours, before being caught by Jack Shantry from the bowling of Leach.

Hardus Viljoen (6*) and Daryn Smit (16) finished unbeaten as Derbyshire reached 209-8. Worcestershire required a revised 218 to win from their 36 overs.

Worcestershire started  quickly in reply, having scored 68 runs during the first 10-over power play, with Kohler-Cadmore reaching his half century off just 26 balls.

Kohler-Cadmore (63) was removed eight balls later when he was caught behind excellently by Daryn Smit from the bowling of Shiv Thakor (30-1) – but his innings had put his side firmly on top on 90-1 in the 11th over.

New man Tom Fell added 24 before he was caught by Godleman at mid-on off Mendis (1-34). Opener Daryl Mitchell reached his half century off 59 balls including three fours, but he was dismissed by Viljoen (55-3) for 67 who caught him off his own bowling.

It was the start of a good spell by the pacemen, who also removed Brett D’Olivera for 18 and Ben Cox for 11 – the latter to an excellent running catch on the boundary by Mendis.

But Worcestershire reached their target with five wickets in hand and four overs remaining, with Ross Whiteley 15 not out and Ed Barnard unbeaten on 13.
