Luis Reece hit an unbeaten 53 on a rain-affected opening day of the Specsavers County Championship match versus Worcestershire at The 3aaa County Ground.

Rain throughout the morning meant no play was possible until 4.00pm, leaving Derbyshire one 40 over session in which to bat after Worcestershire decided to bowl in an uncontested toss.

A good delivery from Joe Leach in the first over in difficult batting conditions saw Ben Slater bowled for two.

Reece and Shiv Thakor added 55 for the second wicket, reaching the 50 partnership in the 21st over, before Thakor was caught by Daryl Mitchell at second slip off a rising delivery from Jack Shantry.

Wayne Madsen made 11 before he was caught behind by Ben Cox from the bowling of Josh Tongue with Derbyshire at 79-3.

Reece batted nicely in tough conditions and reached his half-century off 100 balls, including five fours, with a drive through the off-side for four.

Billy Godleman ended the day with a drive for four, taking his score to 13 not out and Derbyshire to 111-3. Play will begin on day two tomorrow at 11am, with an extra half-hour being played in the final session.
